Student Support Services

• Learning Assistance
  The Learning Assistance Department offers a small companion class for grades 1 to 5. It is  for students  experiencing academic difficulty due to specific learning differences such as dyslexia  and for children struggling academically in a mainstream class and need the extra attention a small class can give. A multi-sensory approach such as Slingerland for language arts is used to teach each subject.  More visuals and hands-on learning at a slower pace is emphasized.  In grades 3-5 the teacher spends more time on oral reading and preparation for science and social studies than the mainstream class.   For more details about the LAD program and for admission procedures click here.

• Middle School Resource
  For students who may struggle in school, the resource program is the perfect venue to for them to learn and thrive.  Five mornings a week the students meet with the resource teacher for language arts and organizational skills. The smaller classroom environment allows students to focus on areas of difficulty ensuring them greater success in academics. Students then join the larger class for all other subjects.

• ExL
  Extended learning is available in the areas of language arts and math, for students that are working above their grade level, and on the recommendation of their teacher.  ExL students meet once a week with other students at their grade level.  After school classes in art and drama are also part of the ExL program at different times of the year, and are open to all students.  

• Resource Program
  A pull-out tutor program can be available providing intensive individual instruction for those children in the larger classes who need help.
